Truemidity

Truemidity two-way humidification packs – how do they work?

The Truemidity 2-way humidity package works on the natural principle of osmosis. Osmosis is a passive transport process in which water passes through a semi-permeable membrane towards an area with a higher concentration of particles, thus creating an equilibrium.

The moisture pack acts like a sponge – the water vapor membrane releases or absorbs moisture, depending on the pressure and temperature of the surrounding air. Depending on the desired relative humidity, geography and climate of the location, the envelope adds or absorbs vapor from the environment. The impregnated membrane of the compression layer made of environmentally friendly fibers allows vapor to pass through without damaging the product or packaging upon contact.

A key advantage of the Truemidity package is that it does not contain liquids – they can leak and contaminate the package and damage or even destroy the cigars.

RELATIVE AND ABSOLUTE HUMIDITY

If humidity is expressed as a percentage, it is called relative humidity. If it is expressed in grams, it is called absolute humidity.

WHAT IS ABSOLUTE HUMIDITY?

Absolute humidity indicates the total amount of water contained in a certain volume of air. It is usually expressed in grams per cubic meter (g/m³).

  • Air at 30 °C can absorb up to 31 g/m³ of water.
  • Air at 5 °C can absorb only 7 g/m³ of water.

WHAT IS RELATIVE HUMIDITY?

Relative humidity indicates the percentage of water vapor saturation of the air. The higher the air temperature, the more moisture it can absorb.

  • At 50% relative humidity, the air is half saturated with water vapor.
  • At 100% relative humidity, the air is completely saturated with water vapor.
  • If the level exceeds 100%, the excess turns into moisture and condenses into water.

WHAT HUMIDITY RANGE CAN TRUEMIDITY CONTROL?

Truemidity can maintain a humidity range from 30% to 80% RH, depending on the need – whether it’s for cigars, herbs, plants or musical instruments.
